Verstappen Questions F1 Future

Max Verstappen has admitted he is reconsidering his future in Formula One after expressing frustration with the sport’s new regulations.

The Red Bull driver made the remarks after finishing eighth at the Japanese Grand Prix, continuing a difficult start to the 2026 season.

Not enjoying it anymore

Verstappen revealed that his concerns go beyond results, insisting his dissatisfaction lies with the current nature of racing.

He said he is no longer enjoying the “formula” of the sport, raising questions about whether continuing is worth it.

“For me, it’s about enjoyment. If that feeling is gone, then you start thinking—why continue?” he suggested.

New rules behind discontent

The four-time world champion’s frustration centres on the new engine regulations, which require heavy energy management during races.

Drivers must constantly recharge battery power, leading to fluctuating speeds and repeated overtakes. While this has made races more unpredictable, Verstappen described it as “anti-driving.”

Struggles continue on track

Verstappen has failed to secure a podium in the opening races—his worst start in years.

Despite this, he maintained that results are not the main issue.

“I can accept finishing seventh or eighth. But not enjoying how you get there—that’s the problem,” he explained.

Plans beyond F1

The Dutchman hinted at life beyond Formula One, including involvement in GT3 racing and long-term motorsport projects.

Message to F1 bosses

Verstappen suggested that changes to the regulations could influence his decision to stay, with discussions expected before the Miami Grand Prix.
