Manchester United Edge Everton 1-0 to Break into Premier League Top Four

Liverpool: Manchester United climbed into the Premier League’s top four with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Everton, thanks to another decisive contribution from Benjamin Sesko.

The Slovenian forward, signed for £73.7m, emerged as United’s super-sub for the second successive match, netting a clinical 71st-minute winner to secure all three points. It came 13 days after Sesko’s dramatic injury-time equaliser against West Ham United, underlining his growing influence under Michael Carrick.

The decisive move began deep in United’s half, with Sesko initiating a swift counter-attack before laying the ball off to Matheus Cunha. Cunha’s long pass found Bryan Mbeumo, and Sesko, having sprinted clear of Everton’s backline, applied a composed first-time finish for his eighth goal of the season.
Interestingly, only two of Sesko’s goals came under former manager Ruben Amorim, with three arriving during Darren Fletcher’s brief interim spell and three more under Carrick, who has now overseen five wins in six league matches.

United have collected 16 points from a possible 18 under Carrick, a run that has propelled them firmly into Champions League contention.

The contest at Hill Dickinson Stadium was otherwise short on quality. Both sides struggled to create clear openings after a near two-week break from competitive action.
Everton came close early on when James Tarkowski cleared Amad’s effort off the line after Jordan Pickford’s initial save.

At the other end, visiting goalkeeper Senne Lammens produced two crucial interventions — first denying Harrison Armstrong and later tipping Michael Keane’s thunderous long-range strike over the bar with eight minutes remaining.

For Everton, the defeat extends their winless home run to seven matches in all competitions. They remain ninth in the table, still searching for consistency at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
