Sunderland delivered a commanding performance to beat Burnley 3-0 at the Stadium of Light, moving up to eighth place in the Premier League and extending their impressive home form.
The breakthrough came when Axel Tuanzebe inadvertently turned Habib Diarra’s effort into his own net, giving Sunderland an early advantage. Diarra later doubled the lead, scoring his first league goal since joining from Strasbourg, before Chemsdine Talbi sealed the win with a stunning long-range strike.
Burnley endured a frustrating night, failing to register a single shot on target, as their winless league run stretched to 15 matches, leaving them 11 points from safety in the relegation battle.
Burnley manager Scott Parker did not mince his words after the match.
“We were nowhere near the level required. It looked like a childish performance,” Parker said, as reported by NDTV Sports (via AFP).
Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris remained cautious despite his side’s rise in the table.
“Our first target is to reach around 40 points. Then we will see,” he said.
The result strengthens Sunderland’s push in mid-table while deepening Burnley’s growing relegation concerns.
