Australia have officially appointed Sophie Molineux as the new all-format captain of the women’s national team, marking a new era ahead of their upcoming multi-format series against India, as reported by ICC and Reuters.
The 28-year-old spin-bowling all-rounder will succeed Alyssa Healy, who is set to retire from international cricket after the India series. Molineux will make her captaincy debut in the T20I leg, while Healy will continue to lead the side in the ODIs and the one-off Test before stepping down.
“It’s a real honour to be named Australian captain and something I’m incredibly proud of,” Molineux said, acknowledging Healy’s impact and legacy .
Cricket Australia confirmed that Tahlia McGrath will remain vice-captain, with Ashleigh Gardner promoted to co-vice-captain, reinforcing leadership depth in the squad.
Alongside the captaincy announcement, Australia revealed their squads for the India tour, featuring a blend of experience and youth. Nicola Carey returns to the white-ball setup, while 19-year-old pacer Lucy Hamilton earns her maiden Test squad call-up, highlighting the team’s future-focused approach (Source: ICC, Cricket.com.au).
The highly anticipated tour will feature three T20Is, three ODIs, and one Test, beginning February 15 in Sydney and concluding with the Perth Test in early March.
