Wolverhampton : Wolverhampton Wanderers finally tasted victory in the 2025–26 Premier League season as Rob Edwards’ resurgent side thumped West Ham United 3–0 at Molineux Stadium, ending a long, frustrating wait for three points and piling fresh pressure on the struggling Hammers.
From the first whistle, Wolves showed a renewed appetite for attacking football, taking the lead as early as the 4th minute when Jhon Arias finished smartly from a low cross. The momentum continued with Korean forward Hwang Hee-chan dispatching a penalty in the 31st minute, before 18-year-old Mateus Mané sealed the win with a fine strike on 41 minutes — giving the home fans something to cheer before half-time.
For Wolves, this was their first league win of the campaign at the 20th attempt, and it snapped a long winless run dating back to the start of the season. West Ham, meanwhile, were unable to muster any real threat — failing to register a shot on target in the entire game — and now find themselves four points adrift of safety amid a worrying run of nine matches without victory. With their defence exposed and creativity lacking, head coach Nuno Espírito Santo is sure to come under mounting scrutiny as the relegation dogfight intensifies.
Reacting after the game, Edwards hailed his players’ character after a difficult first half of the season, emphasising the importance of belief and resilience. “We showed great spirit and deserved every bit of this,” he said, speaking to club media post-match (credit: club press conference). Meanwhile, West Ham’s boss lamented his side’s inefficiency and vowed to regroup ahead of crucial upcoming fixtures
The emphatic scoreline not only doubled Wolves’ league points tally but also offered a glimmer of hope that their season — long written off by some — isn’t yet beyond salvation.
