Argentine football legend Lionel Messi arrived in New Delhi on Monday afternoon after his charter flight from Mumbai was delayed due to foggy conditions in the national capital.
Messi was initially scheduled to land around 10:45am, but adverse weather led to a significant delay before he eventually touched down at Indira Gandhi International Airport at approximately 2:30pm.
Meet-and-greet planned in capital
Following his arrival, Messi headed to a hotel in central Delhi where he is scheduled to take part in a closed-door meet-and-greet session with a select group of guests.
Later in the day, the World Cup-winning captain is set to appear at Arun Jaitley Stadium for a ticketed fan event, marking his final public engagement of the GOAT India Tour.
Final leg of four-city visit
Delhi is the fourth and final stop of Messi’s India tour, which has also included visits to Kolkata, Hyderabad and Mumbai.
During the Mumbai leg on Sunday, Messi interacted with fans and posed for photographs alongside prominent figures from sport, cinema and public life, including cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar.
Tour marked by huge fan response
While the tour has drawn massive crowds across cities, the Kolkata leg earlier this week was marred by disorder after disappointed fans breached security when they were unable to get a clear view of the football superstar.
Despite the disruption, Messi’s appearances in Hyderabad and Mumbai passed off smoothly, with large turnouts reflecting his immense popularity in the country.
After completing his engagements in Delhi, Messi is expected to depart for Miami, where he is currently based.
