The Toronto Blue Jays are now just one win away from their first World Series crown in over three decades after a stunning 6-1 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 5 of the Fall Classic.
Toronto’s explosive start at Dodger Stadium set the tone — Davis Schneider crushed the very first pitch of the night for a home run, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr followed with another on the next pitch, marking the first time in World Series history that teammates hit back-to-back homers to open a game.
Rookie sensation Trey Yesavage then delivered a masterclass on the mound. The 22-year-old right-hander, called up only in September, struck out 12 batters — a World Series record for a rookie — while allowing just one run over seven dominant innings.
The Dodgers briefly rallied through Enrique Hernández’s solo homer in the third, but Toronto quickly reasserted control. Ernie Clement’s sacrifice fly restored their cushion, before a chaotic seventh inning saw multiple wild pitches and a clutch Bo Bichette RBI stretch the lead to 5-1. Isiah Kiner-Falefa later sealed the rout with a late RBI single.
Even Los Angeles superstar Shohei Ohtani couldn’t find his rhythm, going hitless for the second straight game.
The Blue Jays now return to a jubilant Toronto with a 3-2 series advantage — and a golden opportunity on Friday to clinch their first World Series title since.
