Scotland Storm Murrayfield to Reclaim Calcutta Cup

Murrayfield: Scotland delivered a statement performance at Murrayfield, overpowering England 31-20 to lift the Calcutta Cup and breathe new life into their Six Nations campaign.

The fired-up hosts raced to a 17-0 lead inside the opening quarter, setting the tone for a night that belonged to them from the outset. Fly-half Finn Russell pulled the strings with authority, opening the scoring with a penalty before producing a moment of magic to set up Huw Jones for the first try. Captain Jamie Ritchie soon bulldozed over as Scotland ran riot early on.

England’s hopes were dented further when wing Henry Arundell saw yellow in the first half. Although he later crossed for a try, converted by George Ford, the visitors were constantly chasing the game.

Scotland responded to every English push. Scrum-half Ben White capitalised on a loose ball to stretch the lead, while Russell remained flawless from the tee in a commanding display.

The result ends England’s 12-match winning run and hands a timely boost to head coach Gregor Townsend, who had come under scrutiny after last week’s defeat to Italy.

For Scotland, it was more than just a win — it was a reaffirmation of dominance in rugby’s oldest rivalry, lifting the Calcutta Cup for the seventh time in nine years and reigniting belief in their Six Nations charge.
