Lewis Hamilton is eyeing a dream start in Sunday’s Mexico City Grand Prix after delivering his best qualifying result of the season. The Ferrari driver will start third on the grid, behind pole-sitter Lando Norris and teammate Charles Leclerc, giving the Scuderia a strong platform to attack when the lights go out.
The seven-time World Champion produced his sharpest lap yet since joining Ferrari at the start of 2025, finishing just over three-tenths behind Norris and narrowly missing out on a front-row start by less than a tenth of a second.
McLaren’s Lando Norris stole the show with a sensational late lap to secure pole position, beating Leclerc by 0.252 seconds. The result hands Norris a golden opportunity to close the gap to his McLaren teammate and championship leader, Oscar Piastri, who endured a tough session.
In terms of the championship, Sunday will be a big day for Norris, with main rival Piastri down in eighth. The Australian appeared to lack pace throughout the weekend and struggled again to produce a clean lap in the final moments of Q3.
“I’m happy to be back on pole. It’s actually been quite a long time, so it’s a good feeling,” Norris said after qualifying.
For Ferrari, the outcome marks a much-needed boost. Hamilton’s third-place start, alongside Leclerc’s front-row slot, could cause problems for Norris on the long run down to Turn 1. One year on from the team’s last victory, Ferrari will look to convert their promising grid positions into a long-awaited win.
With five races left in the season, momentum is building — and Sunday’s showdown in Mexico could play a decisive role in shaping the title battle.
