The ITTF-ATTU 28th Asian Table Tennis Team Championships 2025 officially kicked off today at the Athletics Centre of Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar.
Sports Minister Inaugurates Event
The opening ceremony was graced by Shri Suryabanshi Suraj, Hon’ble Minister for Sports & Youth Services, Higher Education, and Odia Language, Literature & Culture, Government of Odisha, who declared the championship open.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Suraj expressed pride that Odisha is hosting an international championship of such scale. He said the event reflects the state’s growing prominence in the global sports arena and extended a warm welcome to players from 22 participating countries.
Dignitaries Attend the Ceremony
The ceremony was attended by several distinguished guests, including Ms. Sheikha Hayat Al Khalifa, Acting Regional Vice-President of ATTU & President of the Commonwealth Table Tennis Federation; Shri Dushyant Chautala, President of the Table Tennis Federation of India; Mrs. Meghna Ahlawat; and Shri Sachin Ramchandra Jadhav, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Sports & Youth Services Department, Government of Odisha.
Padma Shri awardee and Indian table tennis legend A. Sharath Kamal, the Brand Ambassador of the event, also graced the occasion.
22 Nations Compete in Prestigious Event
The championship will see intense action in both men’s and women’s categories. In the morning session, 12 teams — including Sri Lanka, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Maldives, Uzbekistan, Oman, DPR Korea, Macau China, Thailand, Bangladesh, Qatar, and Nepal — began their group stage encounters.
Odisha extended a warm welcome to all the teams and wished them success in this prestigious continental tournament.
