Bhubaneswar: Ducati’s Marc Márquez, fresh off securing his seventh MotoGP title in Japan, faced a setback during the Indonesian Grand Prix at Mandalika on October 5, 2025. In the race’s opening lap, a collision with Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi sent both riders into the gravel at high speed. Márquez appeared to be in significant discomfort after tumbling head over heels.
Medical assessments confirmed that Márquez had suffered a fracture to his right collarbone, the same shoulder he injured in 2020. Ducati announced that he would travel to Madrid for further tests and to determine the appropriate treatment.
Despite the injury, Márquez expressed no hard feelings towards Bezzecchi, stating that such incidents are part of racing. He also acknowledged that the crash was not the best way to celebrate his championship.
The Indonesian Grand Prix was won by Gresini Racing rookie Fermin Aldeguer, who became the second-youngest MotoGP motorcycle grand prix winner at 20 years and 189 days after Márquez. Márquez’s Ducati teammate Francesco Bagnaia, Joan Mir (Honda HRC), and Enea Bastianini (Red Bull KTM Tech3) also crashed out of the race.
With the next race scheduled in two weeks at the Australian Grand Prix, Ducati will likely consider potential replacements for Márquez’s bike during his recovery.
