Bhubaneswar : Speculation has been rife about whether cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar will be the next President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The post fell vacant after former India all-rounder Roger Binny stepped down following completion of his term and reaching the age limit of 70. With the BCCI Annual General Meeting scheduled for September 28, multiple reports surfaced linking Tendulkar’s name to the prestigious administrative role.
However, Tendulkar’s management firm issued a clear and categorical denial, calling these rumors “unfounded.” A statement released said, “It has come to our attention that certain reports and rumours have been circulating regarding Mr. Sachin Tendulkar being considered, or nominated, for the position of President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). We wish to categorically state that no such development has taken place.” They urged the public and media to avoid spreading baseless speculations.
At 52, Tendulkar remains one of the most respected figures in Indian cricket but is not currently in the race for the BCCI presidency. Sources close to him mention that he is focused on personal and professional commitments, including mentoring roles in the IPL and family matters.
The BCCI presidency election is expected to be shaped by consensus among major cricket associations and political stakeholders, with Rajeev Shukla currently serving as acting president. Previous presidents have included former cricketers Sourav Ganguly and Roger Binny, but Tendulkar’s involvement in administration has been minimal so far compared to his peers.
As the cricket community awaits official announcements, Tendulkar continues to command immense respect but remains focused away from the boardroom for now.
