Mikel Arteta’s managerial record against Manchester United

Arsenal showed their discipline and character in order to eke out a narrow 1-0 win over rivals Manchester United in their opening Premier League game of the 2025/26 season. The match at Old Trafford on Sunday saw a 13th-minute goal by Riccardo Calafiori make the difference as the Gunners held out for a win. Manchester United, despite having several chances succumbed to Arsenal’s neat display with their defence and goalkeeper David Raya coming out on top.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was once again on top regarding his game plan. Arsenal, who are dangerous from set pieces, got a goal from a corner as Manchester United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir made a mistake. And then, the Gunners had all the answers to what Manchester United threw at them. Raya made a host of saves to deny the Red Devils, who played well, but were ineffective in the final 3rd.

Arteta has made it a habit of producing substance against Manchester United, picking vital wins along the way. Since becoming Arsenal manager, the Spaniard have bossed the show against the Red Devils. This was Arteta’s 8th win against Manchester United in all competitions.

This is the same number of wins he owns against Chelsea. Meanwhile, Arteta has won more games only versus Wolves (9).

Notably, Arteta’s last defeat to Man United in the Premier League was in 2022. He saw his side lose 3-1 at Old Trafford. Since then, Arsenal have won 5 of the 6 matches against United in the Premier League (D1). In 12 Premier League meetings, Arteta’s side has scored 20 goals besides conceding 11.
