The fifth day of the 15th Hockey India Junior Men National Championship witnessed a flurry of goals as teams from both Division A and Division B registered big wins at the Surjit Singh Hockey Stadium on Saturday.
Division B: Chandigarh, J&K and Delhi dominate
In Division B, Hockey Chandigarh defeated Hockey Himachal 5-3, with Gurjeet Singh scoring four goals (35’, 48’, 51’, 56’) and Sharandeep Singh (23’) adding another. Anubhav Rangra (52’), Anuj (6’), and Tanish Kumar (39’) netted for Himachal.
Jammu & Kashmir edged Hockey Arunachal 5-4 in a thriller, thanks to a five-goal performance by captain Rajveer Singh (13’, 23’, 46’, 53’, 60’). Arunachal’s goals came from Shatish Kumar Thakur (21’), Vivek Yadav (9’), Abhi Rajbhar (42’) and captain Amarjeet Singh (38’).
Delhi recorded a comfortable 3-0 win against Hockey Uttarakhand, with Bhanu (7’, 38’) bagging a brace and Yuvraj Singh (50’) scoring once.
Division A: Karnataka crushes Andhra, UP thrashes Maharashtra
In Division A fixtures, Hockey Karnataka thrashed Hockey Andhra Pradesh 10-1. Harpal (12’, 35’) and Tanish Ramesh Hulakund (17’, 56’) scored twice each, while captain Dhruva BS (25’), Achaiah MM (24’), Kushal Bopaiah CB (51’), Raju Manoj Gayakwad (5’), Nitesh Sharma (10’), and Poojith K.R (58’) added one apiece. Patan Asad Musfin Khan (29’) netted Andhra’s lone goal.
Uttar Pradesh Hockey hammered Hockey Maharashtra 9-2. Ujjwal Pal (17’, 26’) and Mithalesh Yadav (8’, 57’) scored doubles, with Satyam Pandey (56’), Fahad Khan (25’), Akash Pal (53’), Manoj Yadav (60’) and Venvanshi Triloki (6’) also on target. Maharashtra’s Arjun Santosh Hargude (30’) and Kartik Ramesh Patare (48’) replied for their side.
Punjab, Haryana also secure wins
Hockey Haryana blanked Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu Hockey 3-0, courtesy of goals from Nitin (19’), Chirag (58’) and Sunil (59’).
In another high-scoring contest, Hockey Punjab beat the Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu 7-4. Amandeep (21’, 29’), Lovenoor Singh (43’, 52’), Charanjeet Singh (5’), Jobanpreet Singh (53’, 54’) and captain Gursewak Singh (44’) powered Punjab to victory. Tamil Nadu’s goals came from Akash K (12’) and Manimaran V, who scored a hat-trick (21’, 27’, 40’).
