International Master (IM) Vikramaditya Kulkarni got off to a strong start, defeating Riyansh Kadam in the opening round of the All India Chess Masters, Season 2 FIDE Classical Tournament, which began at the Mumbai Chess Centre on Saturday.
Promising starts from top contenders
IM Aaryan Varshney also opened his campaign on a winning note, overcoming Priyansh Sharma to secure a full point. Youngster Om Gada impressed by defeating higher-ranked ACM Adavya Hemant Ahire, while Mayuresh Parkar outplayed ACM Vihaan Shah. Pasbola Samvid also notched up a win against ACM Akhil Shah.
One of Mumbai’s biggest chess events
The six-day tournament, running till August 21, has drawn over 220 participants from across the country, making it one of the largest chess events hosted in Mumbai. Organised by the Mumbai Chess Centre under the aegis of the Mumbai City District Chess Association, the competition features classical time control under FIDE rules, promising high-quality, competitive matches.
