Bhubaneswar:
Former India Speedster Steps into Coaching Role
Sunrisers Hyderabad announced the appointment of former India fast bowler Varun Aaron as their new bowling coach for the upcoming 2026 Indian Premier League season. Aaron replaces New Zealand pacer James Franklin in the role .
Fresh Coaching Debut After an Eventful Career
At 35, Aaron is embarking on his first formal coaching position after retiring from all formats of cricket in January 2025. His renowned reputation for raw pace during his playing days—as he once clocked 150 km/h at the MRF Pace Foundation—and experience working as a consultant at the Academy since mid‑2024 make him an ideal fit .
International Achievements & IPL Journey
Aaron’s international tally includes nine Tests and nine ODIs between 2011–2015. He’s remembered for his fiery bouncer that injured Stuart Broad during England’s 2014 tour . His IPL career spanned nine seasons across six franchises, taking 44 wickets at an 8.93 economy rate, and he was part of Gujarat Titans’ 2022 title-winning campaign .
SRH Rallies Behind Pace Reinforcement
Coming off a sixth-place finish in the 2025 IPL, Hyderabad’s bowling attack struggled for consistency. Head coach Daniel Vettori and the SRH management are banking on Aaron’s pace legacy and academy insights to inject life and structure into their pace battery for the 2026 season .
