Pat Cummins’ IPL 2026 return is now on track after the Australian fast bowler recovered from a long-standing back issue. The Sunrisers Hyderabad captain has received clearance to resume bowling, although his participation in the upcoming SRH vs CSK clash remains unlikely.
According to an update from Cricket Australia, fresh scans confirmed that Cummins’ back injury has fully healed. The pacer had missed the first five matches of the IPL season while completing rehabilitation and fitness work.
His recovery is a major boost for Sunrisers Hyderabad as they look to strengthen their bowling attack in the second half of the tournament.
Why Pat Cummins Missed The Start Of IPL 2026
The Pat Cummins injury update earlier in the season revealed that the Australian skipper was dealing with a recurring back stress issue. The problem had restricted him to just one match of professional cricket since August last year.
Because of concerns around long-term fitness, Cricket Australia and Sunrisers Hyderabad chose to manage his workload carefully before allowing him to return to competitive cricket.
Cummins had earlier said he hoped to make his IPL comeback during the middle phase of the tournament once he regained full match fitness.
SRH vs CSK Match Likely Too Early For Cummins
Despite receiving medical clearance, the SRH management is unlikely to rush Pat Cummins back into action immediately. Reports suggest the fast bowler is targeting the April 25 fixture against Rajasthan Royals for his return.
If that plan remains unchanged, Cummins will likely miss the SRH vs CSK IPL 2026 match while continuing to build match fitness.
Once he returns to the side, Cummins is also expected to take back captaincy duties from Ishan Kishan.
Young Bowlers Impress In Cummins’ Absence
Sunrisers Hyderabad have managed well despite their captain’s absence. Young bowlers like Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain have delivered impressive performances in recent matches.
Their contributions have helped SRH stay competitive in the tournament, but Cummins’ return could provide crucial experience and balance as the IPL 2026 playoff race intensifies.
