Monaco, France – The Stade Louis II was buzzing with excitement on Friday as top track and field athletes delivered impressive performances at the latest Diamond League meet.
Lyles Dominates 200m
Noah Lyles of the United States sent a clear message to his competitors in the 200m, securing a dominant victory with a time of 19.88 seconds. This win, achieved after recovering from a tendon injury, positions him strongly for the upcoming World Championships. Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo of Botswana finished second with 19.97 seconds.
Alfred Claims 100m Title
In the women’s 100m, Julien Alfred of Saint Lucia continued her strong form, comfortably winning the race in 10.79 seconds. American Jacious Sears took second place with a time of 11.02 seconds.
Nearly a World Record in 800m
The men’s 800m was a thrilling event, with a late adjustment to the wavelight technology hinting at a potential world record attempt. Kenya’s Emmanuel Wanyonyi, the current Olympic champion, pushed hard and set a new meet record and world lead of 1:41.44. While he just faded at the line, narrowly missing David Rudisha’s mythical 2012 Olympic world record of 1:40.91, his performance was exceptional. American Josh Hoey, the world indoor champion, secured second place with 1:42.01, followed by Algerian Djamel Sedjati in third with 1:42.20.
Other Notable Victories
Ethiopia’s Yomif Kejelcha claimed victory in the men’s 5000m with a time of 12:49.46. Morocco’s two-time Olympic champion Soufiane El Bakkali won the 3000m steeplechase in 8:03.18.
