Liverpool Stars Flop As Manchester United Expose Reds’ Weaknesses In Anfield Defeat

Liverpool’s stuttering start to the season took another painful turn as Arne Slot’s men slumped to a 2–1 defeat against Manchester United at Anfield. The loss not only dented their Premier League title hopes but also raised serious concerns over the form and chemistry of their high-profile attacking trio — Mohamed Salah, Alexander Isak, and Cody Gakpo.

Salah Struggles To Inspire

Mohamed Salah, once Liverpool’s talisman, endured a frustrating evening. The Egyptian forward appeared short of sharpness and confidence, failing to test United’s goalkeeper on multiple occasions. Once the undisputed leader of Liverpool’s frontline, Salah now looks like a player struggling to rediscover his rhythm under Slot’s new tactical setup.

Isak Yet To Justify His Price Tag

Alexander Isak’s big-money move was meant to reignite Liverpool’s attacking firepower, but the Swede is yet to hit full stride. His off-the-ball movement was promising, yet his finishing lacked conviction. Against United, he drifted in and out of the game, leaving fans wondering when the goals will start flowing for the club’s marquee signing.

Gakpo Goes From Hero To Heartbreak

Cody Gakpo experienced both triumph and despair in a roller-coaster performance. After striking the post three times, he finally found the net with a composed equaliser in the 78th minute — only for United to reclaim the lead six minutes later. Gakpo’s energy and effort were evident, but his inconsistency mirrored Liverpool’s broader attacking woes.

Defensive Frailties Continue To Haunt

While much of the spotlight has been on the misfiring forwards, Liverpool’s defensive lapses remain a bigger issue for Arne Slot. United’s winner came from a simple set-piece header, once again exposing gaps in the Reds’ organisation and discipline. Slot admitted post-match that his side’s defensive structure “needs immediate attention.”

Arne Slot Faces A Crucial Turning Point

Liverpool’s early-season optimism under new management is beginning to fade. The balance between attack and defence appears off, and the pressing intensity that once defined the team looks diluted. Slot now faces the challenge of reigniting the spark in his star players while tightening a backline that continues to leak goals.

With tougher fixtures ahead, Liverpool will need more than possession and potential — they need ruthlessness, clarity, and leadership on the pitch.
