Scotland Seal U19 World Cup Spot as Americas Qualifier Gets Underway

PC- ICC Cricket

Welcome to this week’s Emerging Cricket Roundup, where we bring you the latest action from the global development scene. This week’s highlights include Scotland booking their ticket to the 2026 Men’s U19 World Cup, the Americas qualifier kicking off in the USA, and more results from Europe’s packed summer T20 calendar.

U19 Qualifiers in Europe and Americas

The race for the final spots at next year’s Men’s U19 World Cup in Zimbabwe and Namibia is reaching its climax. In the European leg, Scotland emerged victorious after a tense final against the Netherlands, while the Americas event in Georgia, USA, has just begun.

In Europe, Scotland and the Netherlands quickly distanced themselves from the rest of the six-team field after strong opening wins. A storm in Scotland forced Monday’s matches to be postponed, but play resumed on Tuesday.

The Netherlands dominated Sweden, posting 263/8 with Tom de Leede making 74, before bowling out the Swedes for just 59, Tom McArthur claiming three wickets. Scotland faced a tougher test against Denmark, setting 292/6 thanks to Rory Grant’s century. The Danes fought hard, reaching 266/6, led by Abdul Rafeh’s own ton.

That set up Wednesday’s decisive clash. Batting first, the Scots posted 237/8 with Olly Pillinger’s 52 the top score, while Cedric de Lange impressed for the Dutch with 4/29. In reply, the Netherlands lost early wickets and, despite another strong 67 from de Leede, fell for 217. The result gave Scotland their fourth consecutive U19 World Cup berth.

Jersey finished third with two wins, edging Denmark on net run rate. Guernsey and Sweden shared the bottom spots with one win each.

Across the Atlantic, the Americas qualifier sees USA, Canada, Bermuda, and Argentina battle in a double round-robin for the last place in the World Cup. USA started with a 65-run victory over Canada, while Bermuda hammered Argentina by 237 runs in their opener. The tournament runs until Saturday 16 August, with USA–Canada shaping up as the likely decider.

European Summer Continues

Bilateral and multi-team T20I action kept rolling in Europe. In Croatia, Cyprus won all four matches of their series against the hosts. Meanwhile, in Stockholm, Sweden staged the Viking Cup featuring Norway, Austria, and France.

Austria topped the league stage with three wins, followed by Norway with two. Sweden defeated France in the group phase, but France turned the tables in the third-place playoff, winning by two wickets — their first win of the tournament. In the final, Austria chased down Norway’s 106 in under 12 overs to claim an eight-wicket victory.

Coming Up

The Americas U19 qualifier continues until 16 August. Singapore will host Cambodia for three WT20Is from Thursday to Saturday, while Papua New Guinea travel to Guernsey for a T20I and two one-day matches as part of their Challenge League A preparations.
