Manchester City continued their historic start to the Premier League season with a 3-2 victory over Ipswich Town at the Etihad Stadium. Phil Foden opened the scoring before Erling Haaland struck twice to secure City’s seventh consecutive league win, keeping them six points clear at the top of the table.

Foden And Haaland Put City In Control

Foden gave City the lead in the 19th minute, with Jeremy Doku providing the assist. Ipswich responded almost immediately as Daizen Maeda equalised in the 21st minute, finishing after getting the better of Marc Guehi.

Haaland restored City’s advantage in the 34th minute, converting a pass from Mateo Kovacic. The Norwegian striker struck again in the 69th minute, finishing calmly after being set up by Iliman Ndiaye.

Haaland thought he had completed his hat-trick with an acrobatic finish, but the goal was ruled out for offside in the build-up.

City Extend Historic Winning Run

The result made City only the third club in Premier League history to win their opening seven matches of a season, following Chelsea in 2005-06 and Liverpool in 2019-20.

Enzo Maresca also became the first manager to win his first seven Premier League games in charge of a club.

Flemming Penalty Sets Up Late Tension

Ipswich threatened a late comeback when Zian Flemming converted a 90th-minute penalty after Guehi fouled Abdul Fatawu. However, City held on through 12 minutes of added time to preserve their perfect league record.

The match was played in front of 60,817 spectators at the Etihad Stadium, where home supporters showed their backing for the club amid uncertainty surrounding its financial-rule case.
