Real Madrid have completed the signing of defender Marc Cucurella from Chelsea in a deal worth £51.8 million.
The agreement includes an initial fee of £47.5 million, with a further £4.3 million in performance-related add-ons. Cucurella has signed a six-year contract with the Spanish giants.
The 27-year-old is currently representing Spain national football team at the FIFA World Cup but completed the move before the official announcement.
Return to Spain
Cucurella joined Chelsea from Brighton & Hove Albion for £63 million in 2022 and went on to become a regular figure in the squad. During his time in London, he helped the club win the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup.
A product of FC Barcelona‘s academy, Cucurella had long been linked with a return to Spain. Interest from both Barcelona and Atletico Madrid had been reported before Real Madrid secured the deal.
With three years remaining on his Chelsea contract, the Premier League club ultimately accepted Madrid’s offer as part of a wider squad rebuild.
Madrid Continue Transfer Drive
Real Madrid’s move for Cucurella is part of an ambitious recruitment strategy following the return of manager Jose Mourinho.
The club are also reportedly pursuing Bernardo Silva from Manchester City and Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan.
Meanwhile, France international Ibrahima Konate is expected to join after departing Liverpool.
For Real Madrid, Cucurella’s arrival adds experience, versatility and international pedigree to a squad aiming to challenge for major honours under Mourinho in the 2026-27 season.
