Munich : Greek taekwondo athlete Stella Marentaki delivered a standout performance at the 2026 European Taekwondo Championships to win the gold medal in the women’s −67 kg category, marking the most significant title of her senior career to date.
Competing at the prestigious event in Munich, Germany, which celebrates the 50th anniversary of the European Taekwondo Union, Marentaki advanced through a highly competitive field with precision and composure.
Commanding Victories En Route to Gold
Marentaki opened her campaign with a convincing 2-0 victory against Turkey’s Izil Zafer in the Round of 16, followed by a quarterfinal win over Croatia’s Doris Pole. In the semifinals, she continued her undefeated run by defeating Serbia’s Olympic silver medallist Aleksandra Perisic with another 2-0 scoreline to secure her spot in the final.
In the gold-medal match against Hungary’s Luana Marton, Marentaki immediately set the tone of the bout. After a brief early tie at 4-4, she pulled ahead decisively, taking the first round 16-6. The second round saw Marentaki dominate completely, finishing 29-5 and sealing the match 2-0 for the European title.
A Milestone Victory and Future Ambitions
This triumph represents Marentaki’s first major continental championship win at the senior level and cements her status as one of Europe’s leading taekwondo competitors. Her performance not only brought glory to Greece but also boosted her prospects as she looks ahead to qualification opportunities for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
