Zhang Anda booked his place in the World Grand Prix final after edging past Zhou Yuelong 6–5 in a tense all-Chinese semi-final in Hong Kong, sealing victory on the black in a dramatic deciding frame.
Decider Goes Down to the Wire
The match went the full distance after both players traded frames in a closely fought contest. Zhou looked well placed to close out the final frame but lost position on the blue and failed to complete the clearance.
During a safety exchange, he then potted the cue ball, giving Zhang the chance he needed. The 34-year-old stayed composed and cleared the table to secure his place in the final.
Zhang Shows Experience and Resilience
Zhang was forced to come from behind on three occasions but responded with strong scoring. He compiled two centuries of 102 and 121 along with three breaks over 50 to take control at key moments.
His consistency and calm under pressure helped him edge into a 5–4 lead before the match went to a decider.
Zhou’s Title Wait Continues
Zhou fought back bravely with an impressive break of 82 to force the final frame, showing his growing maturity on the big stage. However, another near miss means his search for a first ranking title goes on.
He has now suffered defeats in five semi-finals and four finals, including at this season’s English Open.
Final Clash Awaits Zhang
With this victory, Zhang has reached his fourth ranking final and will now face either world champion Zhao Xintong or Xiao Guodong in Sunday’s title match.
Having already won the International Championship in 2023, Zhang will be aiming to add another major trophy to his career.
