Captain Ben Davies has returned from a long-term ankle injury to be named in Wales’ squad for upcoming friendlies against Ghana and Romania, while Connor Roberts could make his first competitive appearance in nearly a year.
The Tottenham Hotspur defender has not played since suffering an ankle injury in January that required surgery.
Burnley full-back Roberts has been sidelined since Wales’ World Cup qualifying defeat to Belgium in June 2025 after suffering groin and Achilles problems which ruled him out for the entire 2025-26 season.
Roberts recently returned to action with Burnley’s Under-21 side and was included in the senior matchday squad against Wolves on Sunday, although he remained an unused substitute.
Centre-back Chris Mepham has also recovered from injury, but midfielders Jordan James and Rubin Colwill, along with forwards Liam Cullen and Mark Harris, miss out because of minor fitness issues.
Wales preparing for Nations League challenge
Wales will host Ghana at Cardiff City Stadium on 2 June before travelling to Bucharest to face Romania on 7 June.
The Romania clash will be the first meeting between the two nations since the painful 1993 World Cup qualifier in Cardiff, when Wales narrowly missed out on qualification for the 1994 tournament.
Romania are now managed by former Barcelona and Real Madrid star Gheorghe Hagi, who scored in that famous encounter 33 years ago.
Ghana, meanwhile, are preparing for a World Cup group featuring England, Croatia and Panama. Their squad includes Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo.
The friendlies will help Wales prepare for their Nations League campaign later this year, where they will face Portugal, Norway and Denmark in the top division.
