James Tavernier will leave Rangers at the end of the season, bringing an end to an 11-year spell at Ibrox.
Emotional farewell message
The 34-year-old confirmed his decision on social media, describing his time at the club as a huge part of his life. Tavernier, who has been captain since 2018, said leading the team has been one of the greatest honours of his career.
Key figure across eras
Signed in 2015 by Mark Warburton from Wigan Athletic, Tavernier played a major role in Rangers’ journey from the Scottish Championship to the top level.
He was central to the title-winning side under Steven Gerrard and also featured prominently during spells under managers like Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Philippe Clement.
Record-breaking defender
Tavernier leaves as one of the most prolific defenders in British football history. He has scored more than 140 goals for Rangers and set a record for the highest-scoring defender in the UK game.
His performances were recognised in 2021 when he won the PFA Scotland Players’ Player of the Year award.
Focus remains on title race
Despite confirming his departure, Tavernier insisted his focus remains on finishing the season strongly, with Rangers still in contention for the Scottish Premiership title.
With five games remaining, the captain aims to end his long association with the club on a high note before moving on to the next chapter of his career.
