Orleans: Teenage Indian shuttler Tanvi Sharma saw her spirited campaign come to an end after a straight-games defeat to former world champion Nozomi Okuhara in the women’s singles semifinals of the Orleans Masters Super 300 tournament on Saturday.
The 17-year-old rising star from India struggled to control her length and minimize unforced errors, eventually going down 9-21, 16-21 in a 35-minute contest. Okuhara, the experienced Japanese campaigner and former Olympic medallist, capitalized on Sharma’s inconsistencies, dictating rallies with precision and superior court coverage.
Sharma entered the semifinal with confidence, having defeated Okuhara previously at the Syed Modi International last year. However, the seasoned opponent turned the tables this time, using her experience to neutralize the teenager’s attacking play.
Despite the loss, Sharma’s run to the last four marked another encouraging performance for the young World Junior Championships silver medallist. She showcased resilience and promise throughout the tournament, underlining her growing stature on the international circuit.
The semifinal finish adds to Sharma’s steady rise in world badminton and signals a bright future, as she continues to gain exposure against elite opponents.
