Kieffer Moore will miss the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers play-offs after suffering a hamstring injury. The striker, who plays for Wrexham AFC, is expected to be sidelined until April.
The 33-year-old forward picked up the injury during an FA Cup match against Chelsea FC earlier this month. He has since missed league fixtures against Hull City AFC and Swansea City AFC.
Major blow for Wales attack
Moore’s absence is a setback for the Wales national football team, as he has been a key figure in their attack with 15 goals in 52 international appearances.
Wales are scheduled to face Bosnia and Herzegovina national football team in the play-off semi-final on 26 March. If they progress, they will meet either Italy national football team or Northern Ireland national football team in the final five days later.
Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson confirmed the striker would not be fit in time for the international fixtures. He explained that scans revealed a tendon split which could worsen if Moore returns too quickly.
Injury concerns continue for Wrexham
Wrexham are also dealing with another injury issue as wing-back Liberato Cacace remains sidelined. The New Zealand international has struggled with recurring setbacks since joining the club from Empoli FC last summer.
Cacace is expected to miss upcoming international matches for New Zealand national football team, with the club focusing on ensuring he returns fully fit later in the season.
Moore’s absence leaves Wales with a key attacking gap as they prepare for crucial matches that could determine their place at the next World Cup.
