Former US Open champion Emma Raducanu suffered a heavy defeat at the Indian Wells Open as she was swept aside by American sixth seed Amanda Anisimova in just 52 minutes in the third round.
The British No. 1 struggled to cope with Anisimova’s power and accuracy, eventually going down 6-1, 6-1 in a one-sided encounter in California.
One-Sided Contest from the Start
Anisimova took control from the opening game, breaking Raducanu early and dictating the rallies with aggressive groundstrokes. The American quickly raced through the first set 6-1, leaving Raducanu with little opportunity to settle into the match.
The second set followed a similar pattern. Raducanu struggled with her first serve and found it difficult to respond to Anisimova’s relentless attacking play. The sixth seed sealed another 6-1 set, wrapping up the match in under an hour.
Numbers Tell the Story
The statistics reflected the dominance of the American:
Final score: 6-1, 6-1
Match duration: 52 minutes
Winners: Raducanu 2, Anisimova 21
Raducanu, seeded 25 in the tournament, appeared below her best and at times even struggled to chase down drop shots during the match.
Anisimova Delighted with Performance
After the match, Anisimova said she was pleased with the way she approached the contest.
“I think I can be very pleased with my performance today. I had a tough first round, so I just went out to be fearless and enjoy the match,” she said.
The emphatic win sends the American into the last-16 of the tournament, while Raducanu’s campaign at Indian Wells comes to an abrupt end.
