Former East Bengal Coach Mario Rivera Joins Spain’s National Team Ahead of UEFA Women’s Euro 2025

In a strategic move ahead of the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 in Switzerland next summer, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has appointed Mario Rivera—formerly of Indian club East Bengal FC—as a tactical analyst for its women’s national team.

A Tactical Upgrade for Spain Rivera, whose credentials include a recent stint as the head coach of East Bengal FC, joins Spain’s technical staff during a critical preparatory phase ahead of the Euro tournament. His specialization in tactical analysis is expected to enhance Spain’s strategic depth, focusing on match preparation, opponent scouting, and in‑game adjustments.  From Kolkata to the Global Arena Rivera’s journey from the Indian football landscape to the heart of European international competition underscores the increasingly global nature of coaching pathways. After leaving East Bengal, one of India’s most historic clubs, he quickly caught the attention of Spanish selectors looking to bolster their staff with diverse tactical perspectives.  Strategic Boost for Spain Women Spain, current holders of the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 title, entered the new cycle with high expectations. The addition of Rivera signals a commitment to maintaining their tactical innovation and competitive edge. With the UEFA Women’s Euro scheduled for June–July 2025, Spain is fine‑tuning every aspect of their play—defensive organization, transitional speed, pressing systems—areas where a specialist analyst like Rivera can make a tangible impact.

Rivera’s Role and Expectations In his new role, Rivera will be responsible for detailed video analysis, pre‑match scouting reports, pattern identification, and in‑game tactical adjustments. These insights will help head coach Montse Tomé and her backroom team refine team structure, set-piece routines, and opponent‑specific strategies. His contribution arrives just when the final preparations for the tournament intensify.Looking Ahead Spain’s Women’s team is placed in Group B for Euro 2025, set to face strong opposition. As they prepare to defend their title, the blend of international coaching expertise—now including Mario Rivera—suggests a forward-thinking, data‑driven approach.

With just under a year to go until kick-off in Switzerland, the incorporation of Rivera into Spain’s technical setup highlights the importance of cross-continental tactical exchange in modern football. His integration is not just a personal milestone but also a symbol of the growing influence of diverse coaching experiences in elite women’s football.
