Doha: Rising French star Arthur Fils produced a mature and controlled performance to defeat Jakub Mensik 6-4, 7-6(4) and book his place in the final of the Qatar ExxonMobil Open.
The 19-year-old showed poise beyond his years in a tightly contested semifinal, sealing victory in one hour and 37 minutes to set up a blockbuster clash with world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz.
Fils struck first blood by breaking early in the opening set and never allowed Mensik to find rhythm on serve. The Czech teenager, who had impressed earlier in the tournament, fought hard in the second set, pushing it into a tie-break. But Fils held his nerve, racing to a lead and closing it out 7-4 with confident baseline hitting.
“It feels great to be back in a final,” Fils said after the match, highlighting his steady return to form. The Doha run marks his first ATP final appearance in several months and underlines his growing consistency on tour.
Standing between Fils and the title is Alcaraz, who advanced after defeating defending champion Andrey Rublev 7-6(3), 6-4 in the other semifinal. The Spaniard has been in commanding form this season and remains unbeaten in 2026.
Alcaraz’s aggressive court coverage and heavy groundstrokes will present a major challenge, but Fils’ confident serving and improved shot selection in Doha suggest he is ready for the test.
The Doha final now promises an exciting contest between two of the brightest young talents on the ATP Tour. For Fils, it is a chance to capture one of the biggest titles of his career. For Alcaraz, it is another opportunity to extend his dominance at the top of the men’s game.
Either way, Doha is set for a high-quality showdown under the lights.
