Tesero: Norway’s cross-country skiing sensation Johannes Høsflot Klæbo etched his name in Winter Olympics history on Sunday, clinching his ninth Olympic gold medal to become the most decorated Winter Olympian of all time.
The 29-year-old anchored Norway to victory in the men’s 4×7.5km relay at the Milan Cortina Games, sealing his fourth gold medal of the 2026 edition. Klæbo crossed the finish line in 1:04:24.5, slowing down to wave to cheering fans before completing a dominant performance.
With this triumph, Klæbo surpassed Norwegian greats Marit Bjørgen, Bjørn Dæhlie, and Ole Einar Bjørndalen, with whom he previously shared the record of eight gold medals.
“I like the sound of that! It’s a pretty nice title,” Klæbo said after the race. “But it’s special to do this together with this group. In Norway, winning the relay is what really matters.”
France secured silver, finishing 22.2 seconds behind Norway, while host nation Italy claimed bronze, 47.9 seconds adrift.
Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, present at the venue in Val di Fiemme, hailed Klæbo’s achievement on social media, calling him “the Winter Olympian of all time.”
The relay victory further cemented Norway’s dominance in cross-country skiing, with Klæbo widely regarded as one of the greatest athletes in the sport’s history.
