Team GB’s women produced one of the shocks of the Winter Olympics by edging reigning world champions Canada 7-6 in a dramatic round-robin contest in Cortina. After back-to-back defeats to China and South Korea, few expected Rebecca Morrison’s rink to bounce back so emphatically against one of the tournament favourites.
Morrison Leads Remarkable Turnaround The breakthrough came in the third end when a mistake from Canada skip Rachel Homan allowed Morrison to capitalise with a clinical draw for three. Another superb delivery in the fourth forced further pressure on Canada and helped Britain steal again, sending them into the break with a 4-2 advantage. Morrison, who had struggled earlier in the week, looked transformed under the Olympic spotlight.
Champions Left Searching For Answers Canada, beaten by the United States the previous day, appeared rattled. Although points were exchanged after the interval, Britain extended their cushion with a decisive two in the eighth end to move four clear. Homan’s side rallied late but could not find the decisive shot, leaving GB to close out a famous victory.
Semi-Final Hopes Rekindled The result revives British hopes at the Winter Olympics 2026, where five or six wins in the round robin could secure a semi-final berth. GB face another strong test against Sweden on Sunday, while the men’s team continue their campaign against the Czech Republic later on Saturday.
