New Delhi: The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has released its revamped global tournament calendar, bringing both relief and concern for Indian badminton. The India Open has retained its Super 750 status, reaffirming its place among the elite events on the BWF World Tour, despite recent criticism over organisation, infrastructure, and logistics.
However, in a setback for Indian badminton’s domestic circuit, the Syed Modi International in Lucknow has been downgraded from a Super 300 event to a Super 100 tournament — a move that could significantly reduce ranking points, prize money, and international player participation.
The India Open continues to remain one of India’s flagship badminton tournaments, attracting top global stars and offering high-ranking points and prestige. Meanwhile, the downgrade of the Syed Modi event may limit exposure for young Indian shuttlers seeking competitive international opportunities on home soil.
“The revised schedule reflects BWF’s evolving priorities in shaping a sustainable and globally competitive World Tour,” noted the report.
