Harare: A new chapter in Indian cricket was written in Harare as India’s fearless young guns steamrolled England to claim their sixth ICC Under-19 Men’s World Cup title with a commanding 100-run victory at the Harare Sports Club on Friday.
Opting to bat first, India produced a batting masterclass to set England a daunting 412-run target, led by a sensational innings from Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The left-hander tore into the English attack, smashing a breathtaking 175, the highest individual score by an Indian in Under-19 World Cup history, and turning the final into a one-sided contest.
England’s bowlers found little respite as India piled on the pressure with relentless scoring, eventually posting one of the biggest totals seen in a World Cup final.
Chasing a mammoth target, England showed early intent but were repeatedly pegged back by India’s disciplined bowling. Despite a valiant century from Caleb Falconer, wickets fell at regular intervals, and England were bowled out for 311 in 40.2 overs, falling short by a wide margin.
Sooryavanshi capped a dream campaign by being named Player of the Final and Player of the Tournament, finishing with 439 runs in seven innings at an outstanding strike rate.
The emphatic win sealed India’s record sixth Under-19 World Cup crown, underlining the nation’s continued dominance at the youth level and heralding the rise of yet another generation ready for the international stage.
