New Delhi : The iconic FIFA World Cup Trophy was unveiled in India on Friday as part of a three-day nationwide tour, marking its return to the country after nearly 12 years. The unveiling ceremony took place in New Delhi, drawing football fans, officials and dignitaries, and signalling India’s inclusion in FIFA’s global build-up to the 2026 World Cup.
According to DD News On Air, the trophy tour is part of the FIFA World Cup 2026 Trophy Tour by Coca-Cola, aimed at connecting fans across the globe with football’s most coveted prize. The tournament itself will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Union Sports Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya was present at the event and described the occasion as a moment of inspiration for young footballers in the country. Brazilian World Cup winner Gilberto Silva, who also attended the ceremony, said the trophy symbolises “dreams, hard work and the power of football to unite people,” as reported by DD News On Air.
The trophy will remain on display in Delhi for two days before travelling to Guwahati, Assam, on the final day of the tour, offering fans a rare opportunity to witness football history up close.
As noted by DD News On Air, the visit is expected to rekindle football enthusiasm in India and encourage greater participation at the grassroots level, even as the nation continues its long journey on the global football stage.
