Wrexham produced one of the FA Cup shocks of the season by knocking out Premier League side Nottingham Forest on penalties at the Stok Cae Ras.
The Welsh club went two goals ahead twice before being pulled back and taken into extra time, where the tie was finally settled in a dramatic shootout.
Historic Upset
This was Wrexham’s first win over top-flight opposition since 1999, underlining their rapid rise after playing non-league football as recently as 2023, according to club records.
Manager Phil Parkinson said the squad had been reminded of famous FA Cup moments in the club’s past before kick-off.
“We highlighted to the lads some of the great moments in this club’s history in the FA Cup and could we make our own bit of history tonight. We’ve certainly done that,” Parkinson said.
Penalty Drama
Goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo emerged as the hero with crucial saves in the shootout, while goals from Liberato Cacace and Dom Hyam added to the drama on a memorable night.
“It’s a magical night. It’s just a classic FA Cup game,” Cacace said after the match.
Co-owner Ryan Reynolds watched from the stands as Wrexham progressed to the fourth round.
“I’m sure he’ll be delighted to feel the emotion again inside the Stok Cae Ras,” Parkinson added.
League Momentum
Wrexham are also enjoying strong league form, sitting just one point outside the Championship play-off places after winning four consecutive matches, as per league standings.
Several players, including Lewis Brunt and Kieffer Moore, are nearing returns from injury, while potential January signings have not been ruled out by the club.
Forest Frustration
Nottingham Forest manager Sean Dyche criticised his team’s performance.
“We were miles off,” Dyche said, adding that some players “did not make the most of the platform” offered by the FA Cup.
Forest will now shift focus back to Premier League survival, while Wrexham continue to dream of promotion.
After another unforgettable night, fans will be wondering if this season’s story really is being written in the stars.
