Neymar To MLS? Brazilian Star Linked With FC Cincinnati In Potential Transfer Move

Cincinnati: Brazilian superstar Neymar is reportedly exploring a potential move to Major League Soccer (MLS), with fresh speculation suggesting early contacts have already been made about a possible transfer. While the idea of the forward heading to the United States is gaining momentum, the situation remains complex and far from finalized.

The 34-year-old attacker, who has recently been absent from the Brazil national football team setup, is believed to be considering options that could reshape the final phase of his career. Despite ongoing criticism and injury setbacks, Neymar is still keen to remain a prominent figure on the global stage — and a move to MLS could offer both competitive football and renewed visibility ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Cincinnati Emerges as Surprise Contender
Reports indicate that FC Cincinnati has initiated exploratory contact with the player’s camp. The development has raised eyebrows, as many expected any MLS move to involve bigger-profile clubs such as Inter Miami CF, home to Argentine icon Lionel Messi.

However, the Cincinnati approach suggests that multiple MLS franchises may be assessing the feasibility of signing the Brazilian star as the league continues its aggressive push to attract global names.

Contract and Financial Hurdles

A deal, though, is not straightforward. Neymar remains tied to Santos FC, and his current contractual terms reportedly include a significant financial clause that could complicate any immediate departure. In addition, MLS roster regulations, salary caps, and designated player rules would all play a decisive role in determining whether a transfer is viable.

At this stage, sources describe the discussions as preliminary rather than advanced negotiations. Initial contact does not necessarily indicate a transfer is imminent, but it does highlight growing interest from the American league.

Career Redefinition on the Horizon?

A move to MLS could represent more than just a change of scenery. For Neymar, it may offer a chance to reset his narrative, take on a leadership role, and remain commercially and competitively relevant. The league’s expanding global profile — boosted by high-profile arrivals in recent years — makes it an attractive destination for established stars looking to extend their influence.
For now, the situation remains open: interest exists, conversations have begun, but significant obstacles still stand in the way. Whether Neymar ultimately joins MLS or stays put, the coming months could prove decisive in shaping the next chapter of his career.
