Aston Villa are set to complete the signing of Chelsea midfielder Oriane Jean-Francois in a permanent transfer worth £450,000.
The 24-year-old joined Chelsea from Paris St-Germain in 2024, but has struggled to secure regular playing time. The move will become a club-record sale for the Blues.
Why Villa Want Her
Villa have shown strong ambition this season and see Jean-Francois as a key addition to strengthen their midfield. The club currently sits eighth in the Women’s Super League, with three wins and four draws from 11 matches.
The French international has made 21 appearances for her country and brings top-level experience despite limited minutes at Chelsea.
Nighswonger Also Joins
Earlier on Saturday, Villa confirmed the loan signing of Arsenal defender Jenna Nighswonger until the end of the season.
The 25-year-old was part of the USA squad that won Olympic gold at Paris 2024 but has played just 16 minutes in the WSL this campaign. Villa also hold an option to make her move permanent.
Club Reaction
Villa director of women’s football Marisa Ewers expressed her excitement about the signings.
“We have been tracking her for some time and are delighted that she has bought into our exciting project,” Ewers said.
“This signing forms part of our growing ambitions as we continue to build an exciting and competitive squad, and we believe Jenna will add real quality to the group.”
Villa’s recruitment drive underlines their intent to push higher up the WSL table in the second half of the season.
