FC Barcelona have stormed into Sunday’s Spanish Super Cup Final with a resounding 5–0 victory over Athletic Club, showcasing a performance that was both dominant and clinical.
A spectacular display saw Raphinha net twice, while Ferran Torres, Fermín López, and Roony Bardghi added the other goals. Remarkably, four of the five goals came within the opening 38 minutes, effectively deciding the contest well before halftime.
Ferran Opens the Floodgates
Barça finally broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute. A volley from Fermín López—whether intended as a shot or a pass—found Ferran Torres, who turned sharply and slotted the ball home with trademark precision.
Momentum continued as Raphinha threaded a perfect pass to Fermín López in the 30th minute, doubling Barça’s lead to 2–0. Athletic appeared overrun, and the rout intensified just minutes later when Roony’s angled shot slipped under goalkeeper Unai Simón.
Running Riot
The first half concluded with Raphinha scoring a thunderbolt from Roony’s pass, making it 4–0. Athletic’s Oihan Sancet struck the post before halftime, but the game was firmly in Barça’s hands.
The second half saw Raphinha complete his brace, taking his tally to six goals in six games, before Barça eased off, mindful of the upcoming final.
Eyes on the Final
The victory guarantees Barça a place in the fourth consecutive Spanish Super Cup Final under coach Hansi Flick, who maintains a perfect record in reaching finals with the club. Barça will now await the winner of Thursday’s semi-final between Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid.
Barça fans can look forward to the final on Sunday, 8pm CET in Jeddah, where the Catalans will aim to extend their record as the club with the most Super Cup titles (15).
