London: The next global football stars are not all emerging from the Premier League or La Liga. According to the CIES Football Observatory, as reported by BBC Sport, a new wave of wonderkids born in 2006 or later are making a strong impact in leagues outside Europe’s traditional “big five”.
Topping the list are players already performing regularly at senior level, proving that elite talent continues to flourish beyond the biggest stages.
Dutch right-back Givairo Read has become a key figure for Feyenoord, combining pace, physicality and attacking intent, while Sporting CP’s Geovany Quenda has impressed with his explosive wing play — form that has already earned him a future move to Chelsea, BBC Sport reported.
Ghana midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi, currently with FC Nordsjaelland, has drawn attention for his tactical intelligence and versatility, having already earned multiple international caps. Meanwhile, Rodrigo Mora of Porto continues to break age records in European competition, underlining Portugal’s reputation as a breeding ground for young stars.
Defenders also feature prominently, with Joane Gadou of RB Salzburg and Jorge Salinas of Racing Santander standing out for their composure and physical presence at such a young age.
As highlighted by BBC Sport, the CIES rankings are based on detailed performance data rather than reputation alone, focusing on players who are already influencing matches at senior level.
With scouts from Europe’s biggest clubs closely monitoring their progress, many of these teenagers may soon be household names — reinforcing the idea that football’s future is being shaped far beyond the spotlight of the biggest leagues.
