Ranchi : The Women’s Hockey India League is back for its second season, promising a compact but competitive battle as four teams line up for the title at Ranchi’s Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Astro Turf Hockey Stadium.
This season will feature Soorma Hockey Club, Ranchi Royals, Sharchi Bengal Tigers and SG Pipers, with Ranchi Royals replacing defending champions Odisha Warriors, who pulled out of the tournament ahead of the new edition.
The action begins on Saturday, with hosts Ranchi Royals taking on SG Pipers in the opening match.
How the Tournament Shapes Up
The format remains straightforward and intense. Each team will play the others twice in the league stage, ensuring six matches per side. The top two teams at the end of the league phase will advance to the final, scheduled for January 10.
All matches will be held at a single venue in Ranchi, keeping travel minimal and the focus firmly on performance.
Star-Studded Squads
Season 2 boasts an impressive blend of Indian and international talent. Players from Argentina, Australia, the Netherlands, Spain, New Zealand, Japan, Uruguay and Great Britain will feature alongside several Indian regulars, adding depth and global experience to the competition.
Where to Watch
Fans can follow the tournament live on Sony Sports Ten 1, Sony Sports Ten 3 and DD Sports, with digital streaming available on Waves and the Hockey India League YouTube channel. Entry to the stadium is free, with tickets available via Tickegenie.
With the champions missing and a new team in the mix, the Women’s HIL returns with an open field — and a strong chance of crowning a first-time winner.
