The biggest attraction, however, will be the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8, 2026. With 20 teams and over 50 matches, the tournament is expected to draw massive crowds and global viewership, with key fixtures slated for Indian venues.
“This World Cup will be a defining moment for Indian cricket at home,” a former India international was quoted as saying, highlighting the significance of hosting a global event.
Franchise Fever: WPL and IPL
Women’s cricket continues its upward trajectory with the Women’s Premier League (WPL) scheduled from January 9 to February 5, 2026. The league has quickly established itself as a major force in the women’s game.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, the 19th edition of the tournament, will run from March 26 to May 31, 2026. With 10 franchises competing, the IPL remains India’s biggest sporting spectacle and one of the most-watched leagues in the world.
Badminton, Hockey and Shooting
India’s sporting calendar also features major non-cricket events. The India Open Super 750 Badminton Tournament will be held in New Delhi from January 13 to 18, 2026, bringing the world’s top shuttlers to the capital.
The Hockey India League 2025–26 season runs from December 28 to January 26, continuing the revival of professional hockey in the country with matches across multiple cities.
Meanwhile, the Shooting League of India, scheduled from February 16 to 26 in New Delhi, aims to popularise shooting through a franchise-based format.
