The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) on Wednesday signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in sports and enhancing high-performance exchanges between the two nations.
The agreement lays out a structured framework for collaboration in athlete development, coaching, sports science, and the utilisation of each country’s elite sporting infrastructure. Under the MoU, athletes, coaches, and sports science professionals from India and Italy will gain mutual access to high-performance centres, enabling knowledge-sharing and joint training opportunities.
The signing ceremony in New Delhi was graced by Mr. Antonio Tajani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy, and Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. Their presence underscored the strategic intent of both governments to deepen engagement through sport.
Also present were Luciano Buonfiglio, President of the Italian National Olympic Committee, and Dr. P.T. Usha, President of the Indian Olympic Association, who formalised the partnership on behalf of their respective organisations.
The MoU is expected to pave the way for long-term collaboration, talent development, and joint initiatives across Olympic disciplines, further reinforcing sports diplomacy between India and Italy.
