Australia Seize Control as 20 Wickets Fall on Action-Packed Day

An extraordinary day of Test cricket saw 20 wickets tumble as Australia wrested control of the contest, bowling England out for 110 before closing the day on 4 without loss, holding a 46-run lead at stumps.

After England had earlier kept Australia in check, the home side responded with ruthless efficiency, exploiting helpful conditions to dismantle the visitors’ batting lineup. The surface offered movement, but it was Australia’s relentless accuracy and pressure that made the difference.

England’s innings unravelled almost immediately. Mitchell Starc and Michael Neser struck with the new ball to remove the top order, reducing England to 8 for 3. Hopes of a recovery rested on Joe Root, but the senior batter fell cheaply, edging behind as England slipped to 16 for 4.

The only meaningful resistance came from Harry Brook, who counterattacked with a fluent 41, briefly arresting the collapse. Once Brook was dismissed, England fell away rapidly, losing wickets in clusters. From 68 for 6, they slid to 91 for 9, undone by sharp seam movement and sustained pressure.
Scott Boland, bowling with trademark precision on his home ground, combined with Neser to rip through the middle order, the pair sharing seven wickets between them. The innings ended when Cameron Green outfoxed Gus Atkinson (28) with a fuller delivery, bowling England out for 110.

Australia’s response with the bat was deliberately brief. With fading light and testing conditions, the hosts chose to bat for just one over before stumps. Travis Head walked out alongside nightwatchman Scott Boland, and the pair safely negotiated the over to finish on 4 for no loss, extending Australia’s overall lead to 46 runs.

With momentum firmly on their side and the bowlers having set the tone, Australia head into the next day in a position of strength, while England face the daunting task of clawing their way back into the contest.
