Emma Raducanu says she no longer feels she is “hiding from anything” after recovering from a disturbing stalking episode earlier this year. The 2021 US Open champion was left distressed in Dubai when she spotted a man who had followed her to four tournaments sitting in the stands during a match. He was removed and later given a restraining order.
Unsettled by Hidden Photographers
Raducanu says she has “got over” the incident, but admits she still gets unnerved when unexpected photos of her appear in the media. She recalled noticing a picture taken in London without realising any photographer was nearby, calling the moment “creepy”.
Growing Comfort in Public Spaces
The 23-year-old has been commuting by train from her family home in Bromley while training in Barcelona with coach Francisco Roig. She says rush-hour travel has helped her feel more at ease being recognised, as most people are focused on their own routines.
Ready to Stop Hiding
Raducanu says she now feels more confident moving around in public. She doesn’t mind if fans approach her and believes she has reached a point where she no longer feels the need to hide or stay out of sight.
