Fearless Preeti Lights Up Greater Noida
Olympian Preeti Pawar announced her return to the international stage in spectacular fashion, clinching the women’s 54kg gold medal at the World Boxing Cup Finals in Greater Noida. Her aggressive, no-nonsense style electrified the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Stadium and left even seasoned champions rattled.
Stunning a Three-Time World Champion
Preeti shocked the boxing world in the semifinals by overpowering three-time world champion Huang Hsiao-wen of Chinese Taipei. With a significant height disadvantage, the Indian youngster closed the distance, unleashed relentless combinations, and refused to back down.
Asked about her bold approach, she smiled and said, “Jab choose hi kar liya hai boxing, toh dar kis liye?” — When you’ve chosen boxing, what’s there to fear?
Carrying Momentum Into the Final
She carried the same fire into the gold-medal bout, defeating Italy’s Sirine Charabbi, who applauded Preeti after the contest — a testament to the 21-year-old’s dominant performance.
A Comeback Fueled by Grit
Preeti’s triumph becomes even more remarkable considering her battle with Hepatitis A earlier this year. Hospitalised during the pre-Olympics camp in Germany, she still pushed herself to compete in Paris before falling in a close 2–3 decision to Colombia’s Yeni Arias. Months of recovery followed before she returned at the BFI Cup and then qualified for the World Cup Finals — her first major international outing since Paris.
India’s Next Big Boxing Star
From illness to international gold, Preeti Pawar’s journey underscores exceptional resilience. Her fearless mindset — inside and outside the ring — marks her as one of India’s most exciting prospects as she prepares for bigger global challenges ahead.
