Japanese rising talent Ai Goto lit up the 29th edition of the Faldo Junior Tour European Grand Final at the Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting & Golf Club, United Arab Emirates, finishing with a three-round total of 12-under par (66-65-67 = 198) to claim the title. Meanwhile, UAE’s own Rayhan Ahmed stole the spotlight as the top local performer, posting rounds of 70-70-66 (–4 total) to tie for 8th overall.
Goto’s Masterclass Amid Drama
The 16-year-old from Kobe, Japan, produced a brilliant mix of birdies and consistent play across three rounds. Her opening 66 included seven birdies, an eagle and a dramatic triple-bogey nine, but she bounced back instantly with a 65 featuring six birdies. She closed with a steady 67 to clinch the win. Her week featured 17 birdies and one eagle — a sensational performance.
Zambia’s Michael Chuma challenged late with a blistering 61 in the final round, but still finished two shots behind at –10. Khaleej Times
Home Hope Ahmed Shines
The 18-year-old Rayhan Ahmed delivered an encouraging showing for UAE golf fans. After two opening rounds of 70, he surged in the final round with a 66 to finish at –4. He acknowledged that his driving was inconsistent throughout the week, which cost him strokes, but praised his strong approach play in the final round.
Ahmed also noted the challenge of the mixed-tee setup and the sandy waste areas which affected ball lies and added difficulty. His next stop: the Tommy Fleetwood Pathway Series at Al Hamra Golf Club in Ras Al Khaimah.

For Ai Goto, this commanding win signals her readiness to move into higher-level junior and possibly elite competition. Her ability to recover from the early stumble (the triple-bogey) and maintain composure underscores her maturity beyond her years.
For Rayhan Ahmed and UAE golf more broadly, Ahmed’s performance is a positive sign of local talent progressing. His solid final round and capacity to handle a challenging course setup hint at promise — though the driving inconsistencies highlight areas for improvement.
