Liverpool suffered their sixth Premier League defeat of the season, losing 0-3 to Nottingham Forest at Anfield on Saturday. This was their sixth defeat in 7 Premier League games after 12 matchdays this season. The result leaves the Reds in the bottom half of the table. Other results saw Arne Slot’s men drop to 11th in the standings.
Liverpool go down 3-0 to Forest at Anfield
For the first 30 minutes, Liverpool dominated the contest at home but failed to convert their chances into goals. Murillo opened the scoring for Forest in a controversial manner that survived VAR scrutiny. The goal came in the 33rd minute of the contest from Elliott Anderson’s corner. Igor Jesus then had a goal controversially ruled out. Jesus volleyed into the far corner but a controversial handball decision ruled it out after VAR review.
Just seconds into the second half, the champions’ defense was again caught napping as Neco Williams skipped past a couple of half-hearted challenges before Nicolo Savona scored to make it 2-0. The visitors sealed their victory with a third goal from Morgan Gibbs-White, who was brilliantly assisted by Omari Hutchinson in the 88th minute.
6th defeat for the Reds this season
As mentioned, this was Liverpool’s sixth defeat of the season. This was also their 2nd successive 3-0 defeat. They lost to Manchester City 3-0 before the November international break. The Reds have already conceded 20 goals this season and their goal difference is -2.
Opta stats: Liverpool post these sorry records
- Liverpool have lost back-to-back league games by a margin of 3+ goals for the first time since April 1965 under Bill Shankly.
- Liverpool are just the fourth side to start a season as defending champions in the Premier League with 6+ defeats in their first 12 games, after the likes of Blackburn Rovers in 1995-96 (6), Chelsea in 2015-16 (7), and Leicester City in 2016-17 (6).
What next for the Reds?
Liverpool will turn their attention towards the Champions League. They face PSV Eindhoven at Anfield on Wednesday night. And then, they have a trip to London where they will take on West Ham United in the Premier League.
