Bhubaneswar: Odisha is fast advancing on the path of sports development under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. A review meeting on the progress of sports infrastructure projects was held Friday at Lokaseva Bhavan, with emphasis on creating world-class facilities from the grassroots level.
The meeting was chaired by Sports & Youth Services Minister Suryabanshi Suraj, who highlighted the importance of taking sports development beyond state and district levels and reaching rural talent. “Odisha’s villages are brimming with potential. Providing them world-class training facilities will make the state proud in the sports arena,” he said.
Discussions focused on ongoing projects, including swimming pool complexes, the Jajpur Sports Complex, iconic sports centers in Sambalpur and Jharsuguda, indoor sports halls, and a football training center in Sambalpur. Plans for upcoming world-class facilities in Jharsuguda and Bhadrak were also reviewed.
Law, Works, and PWD Minister Prithviraj Harichandan stressed the need for officials and engineers to ensure that every sports infrastructure project meets international standards. Principal Secretary of the Works Department, Sanjay Kumar Singh, emphasized the use of modern techniques and advanced machinery during construction and careful preparation of detailed project reports.
This review underscores Odisha’s commitment to nurturing grassroots talent and building world-class sports facilities, reflecting the state’s growing prominence in India’s sports landscape.
